Aurelien Eulert, opera and voice coach
Pianist and vocal coach Aurelien Eulert has worked extensively in recitals, masterclasses and studios with renowned musicians, including pianists Christopher O’Riley and Earl Wild, flutists Michel Debost, Jim Walker and Patrick Gallois, cellist Ralph Kirshbaum, violist Donald McInnes, composers William Bolcom, Jason Robert Brown and Jake Heggie, and singers Marilyn Horne, Phyllis Curtin, Frederica von Stade, Elizabeth Hynes, Denyce Graves and Stephen Smith, among others. He has played as an orchestral pianist and opera répétiteur under James Conlon, Robert Spano, Carl St-Clair, Brent McMunn and John Williams. Aurelien has given numerous performances of both solo repertory and collaborative and chamber music in prestigious venues such as Walt Disney Hall and the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, Seiji Ozawa Hall at Tanglewood, and the Palais de la Musique et des Congrès in Strasbourg, France, as well as concerts in New York City, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Southern California, the Big Island of Hawai’i and all over France, Luxembourg and Germany.
Aurelien was invited to the Tanglewood Music Center in the summer of 2010 as a piano fellow where he worked with prominent figures such as pianist Peter Serkin, soprano Dawn Upshaw and composers John Harbison and Oliver Knussen. He was also the rehearsal pianist for Elliott Carter’s world premiere “What are Years” and worked closely with the composer. He has served for five years as staff pianist for the French flute festival Flutissimo held every summer since 2005. Since the summer of 2011, he has been on the vocal faculty of the Hawaii Performing Arts Festival. Currently finishing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Southern California, Aurelien holds degrees from USC, Syracuse University and the Conservatoire National de Strasbourg. He has studied with pianists Jean-Louis Haguenauer, Amy Lin, Fred Karpoff, Alan Smith and Kevin Fitz-Gerald. Aurelien performs regularly with leading American baritone Rod Gilfry. He is also the principal pianist of the Horizon Music Group and Opera on Tap Los Angeles. He has been the musical director of the Chamber Opera of USC since 2008, where he recently directed his first two full operas, Gian Carlo Menotti’s The Medium and Pauline Viardot’s Cendrillon. Aurelien has been coach and rehearsal pianist with the USC Thornton Opera since 2010 and on the vocal staff at the UCLA Alpert School of Music. Upcoming projects include joining the staff of Pacific Opera Project and Red Door Opera, both based in Los Angeles.
